Bleaching
The number of people who want to have radiant white teeth is increasing
every day. The term "Bleaching" denotes a sparing method of teeth whitening.
To bleach teeth you can also use hydrogen peroxide - as you use it for
dying hair. Tooth discolouration is mainly caused by smoking, frequently
drinking tea, coffee as well as by taking some medicine.
During the so-called in-office "power bleaching" the patient's
gum is isolated with a protective material whereas a highly concentrated
dental bleach is applied onto the patient's teeth by means of a custom-made
tooth whitening tray made of plastic. The bleaching tray is to be worn
for 30 to 60 min. (developing time).
In the so-called "at-home bleaching" the tooth whitening tray
should be worn for one week as the beaching agent is not so strong.
Due to both methods of bleaching, patients teeth become one to two shades
lighter. In young patients bleaching leads to better results as their
enamel (the outer layer of the tooth) is much thicker.
Plastic fillings as well as ceramic dental crowns can not be bleached.
They need to be replaced with lighter ones latter.
We would like to warn you against offers of self-made bleaching. The
applied standard bleaching tray cannot absolutely suit your teeth, so
bleach can leak and irritate the gum.
